State of beer play for WA brewery awards

At last month’s major Australian beer awards there was more proof WA’s best beers aren’t made close to Perth.
The snapshot from the gala night in Melbourne was that the State’s 11 gold medals were widely spread, from Denmark in the south to the far northern extremity of the capital in Mindarie.
Six weeks later the commercial breweries from the left-hand side of the continent again come up for judgment. This weekend some of the best beer tasters in the country will gather to adjudicate the Perth Royal Beer Show awards.
More than 550 beers are to be considered. Bintani’s Justin Fox will be the head judge for the WA awards.
So, will the latest snapshot again show that distance doesn’t prevent rural breweries from producing A-grade beers? It must be noted that Feral was ineligible for the Australian International Beer Awards because founder Brendan Varis was head judge.
The winners will be announced at a gala function in East Perth on Friday June 30.
There will also be an Exhibitor’s Tasting session open to the public at the Claremont Showground on Saturday July 1.
